You are going on a trip around the world

If you are going travelling or on a round-the-world trip, or you have already started, it is good to know that your insurance under the Long-term care scheme (Wlz scheme) will probably not stop while you are away.

Important information

To decide whether you are insured under the Wlz scheme, we look at whether you work during your travels, and if so, what type of work you do.

  1. If you are going to work outside the Netherlands

If you work during your travels, and you get paid for it, your insurance under the Wlz scheme may stop. This means that you will no longer be insured in the Netherlands for your medical costs. Instead, you will have to take out an international health insurance policy.

  2. Your work situation

To decide whether you can stay insured under the Wlz scheme, we look at how long you will be working outside the Netherlands, the type of work you are going to do, and which country you will be working in.

Every situation is different
