Which country can you get child benefit from?

If you or your partner are also receiving family benefits from a country other than the Netherlands, you cannot get the full amount from both countries. There are international agreements about what each country should pay.

Supplementary family benefits from the Netherlands

If the payment of family benefits from the other country has priority over the Dutch family benefits, but the total amount you can get from the other country is lower, the Netherlands will pay a supplement. As a rule, your family benefits from the other country plus the supplement from the Netherlands will be equal to the Dutch child benefit amount.

If you get a family benefit supplement from the Netherlands, the supplement could be for child budget and childcare benefit as well as for child benefit. The supplement will be paid at the end of each quarter. This means that you will not get your child budget or childcare benefit every month from the Belastingdienst.
