Which country can you get child benefit from?

If you or your partner are entitled to family benefits from the Netherlands as well as from another country, you cannot get the full amount from both countries. There are international agreements about what each country should pay.

A supplement from the Netherlands

If the payment of family benefits from the other country has priority over the Dutch family benefits, but the total amount you can get from the other country is lower, the Netherlands will pay the difference as a supplement. This way, the total amount you will receive from both countries will be equal to the full amount of Dutch family benefits.

If you get a family benefit supplement from the Netherlands, the supplement could be for child budget and childcare benefit as well as for child benefit. The supplement will be paid at the end of each quarter. This means that you will not get your child budget or childcare benefit every month from the Belastingdienst.
