You or your partner lives in a nursing home
If you or your partner lives in a nursing home, you can choose whether you want to receive your AOW pension at the rate for a person living with another adult or at the rate for a person living alone. The pension rate for a person living with another adult is 50% of the net minimum wage. The pension rate for a person living alone is 70% of the net minimum wage.
Choosing the pension rate for a person living alone is not always the best option
Although it might seem better to opt for the pension rate for a person living alone because you and your partner will receive a higher amount in AOW pension, doing so could have drawbacks. For instance, your personal Wlz contribution for long-term care might increase significantly or you might get a lower amount in rent benefit.
You should only opt for the pension rate for a person living alone when you know what financial consequences this will have for you and your partner.
