Extraordinary Pension Act (Wbp)

The Extraordinary Pension Act 1940-1945 (Wbp) offers financial support to people who participated in the resistance against the hostile occupying force in Europe during the Second World War.

If you have permanent damage to your health as a result of your activities in the Resistance, you can qualify for financial support.

The Wbp scheme can pay a monthly pension or allowances and reimbursements for costs.

Extraordinary pension

If your activities in the Resistance resulted in permanent damage to your health, and you have a disability level of 10% or more, you can qualify for an extraordinary pension.

If you have a disability level of 80% or more, you will also receive a 'compassionate allowance' as well as the fixed reimbursement.

The amount of your extraordinary pension will depend on your level of disability and your other income. ‘Other income’ includes AOW pension, company and private pensions and income from assets.

The amount is adjusted twice a year in January and July in line with the minimum wage.

Pensions for surviving spouses

If your spouse's death was linked to his or her activities in the Resistance, or if your spouse was receiving an extraordinary pension when he or she passed away, you can qualify for a pension as a surviving spouse.

Payments towards costs

If you have extra costs because of injuries linked to your participation in the Resistance, and you do not receive anything to help you pay for these costs, you can qualify for an allowance or reimbursement from us. This could be for medical treatment, home help or travel expenses.

Applying for recognition only

If you are not suffering from permanent damage to your health or you are not in need of financial support, but you still want to be officially recognised as a victim of war, you can contact our V&O department.

The other extraordinary pension schemes

Besides the Wbp scheme, there are 2 more extraordinary pension schemes.

  1. The Extraordinary War Pension Act for Merchant Seamen (Wbpzo) is a scheme for people who suffered damage to their health because of the injunction to continue sailing during the war.
  2. The Extraordinary Pension Act for Resistance in the Dutch East Indies (Wiv) is for people who participated in the resistance against the hostile occupying force in Asia during the Second World War.
