Voluntary insurance

Voluntary insurance for your family

If you take out voluntary AOW insurance, this will only count towards your own AOW pension, not that of your partner or children.

If you take out voluntary Anw insurance for yourself, your partner may be able to claim an Anw survivor benefit in the event of your death. If your children become orphans as a result of your death, they may be able to receive an orphan's benefit.

Voluntary insurance for your partner

Your partner can also take out voluntary insurance. This has the following advantages:

  • your partner will build up rights to his or her own AOW pension, and
  • you may be able to get an Anw survivor benefit if your partner dies.

Voluntary insurance for your children

You can take out voluntary AOW insurance for children aged 17 and 3 months and over.

If your child was aged between 15 and 17 and 3 months when you left the Netherlands, different rules apply. Contact us about this before your child reaches the age of 18 and 3 months.
