Fines and administrative sanctions
A change in your situation may affect your entitlement to a pension or benefit. The amount may need to be increased or reduced. We want to make sure that you always get the right amount. For this reason, you are obliged to report any changes to us within 4 weeks of the change occurring (6 weeks if you live outside the Netherlands). If you do not report a change on time, the SVB may fine you or impose an administrative sanction.
You will be fined if:
- you do not report a change on time
- you provide us with incorrect or incomplete information
The standard fine is 50 percent of the amount overpaid in pension or benefit, but it could also be less or more, depending on, for example, the reason why you did not report the change on time, and whether or not you have failed to meet your obligations before.
If you do not respond to our requests for information on time, we will impose an administrative sanction involving a one-off deduction of at least €25 from your pension or benefit. The precise amount will depend on, for example, the reason why you did not report the change on time, and whether or not you have failed to meet your obligations before.
A warning instead of a sanction
If you were late in reporting a change but did not receive too much pension or benefit, you will get a warning instead of an administrative sanction.
You will also get a warning if:
- the amount overpaid is less than €150, or
- you reported the change to us of your own accord within 60 days after expiry of the 4-week time limit.
