Exemption from compulsory insurance under the AOW, Anw and AKW schemes

You can apply for exemption if you receive a pension or benefit from a country other than the Netherlands, or from an international organization, such as NATO or the European Union.

If you only receive a non-Dutch benefit or a pension or benefit from an international organization

You will qualify for exemption if:

  • you live in the Netherlands, and
  • you have a long-term pension or benefit, and
  • your pension or benefit is more than €1,144.92 gross per month, and
  • you do not do paid work (limited voluntary work is permitted)

If you also receive a Dutch pension or benefit

If you have a Dutch pension or benefit as well as a pension or benefit from another country or from an international organization, you can qualify for exemption if:

  • you live in the Netherlands, and
  • both pensions/benefits are long-term, and
  • the pensions/benefits together exceed €1,144.92 gross per month, and
  • your Dutch pension or benefit is lower than or equal to the other pension or benefit, and
  • you do not do paid work (limited voluntary work is permitted)

To apply for exemption, download the application form or call our Insurance Office in Amstelveen on number (020) 656 54 39 and ask them to send you the form.
