When will you start to receive child benefit and child budget?
Child benefit and child budget do not begin and end at the same time.
Child budget starts in the month after the child's month of birth
Child budget starts in the month following the month in which your child was born. If your child was born in April, you will start receiving child budget in May.
You may have to wait a while for the first payment, but after that, the Tax Administration will pay your child budget in advance. Example: your child budget for September will be paid at the end of August.
Child benefit payments start in the quarter following the quarter in which the child was born
Child benefit is paid on a quarterly basis and starts in the quarter after the quarter in which your child was born. If your child was born on 12 April, this means that he or she was born in the second quarter. The child benefit will then start in the 3rd quarter. The SVB pays child benefit after the end of the quarter concerned, in this case, at the beginning of October.
You will only get child benefit for the quarter in which your child was born if he or she was born on the first day of the quarter. If your child was born on 1 April, the child benefit will start in the second quarter. If your child was born on 2 April, the child benefit will not start until the third quarter.
