How is your AOW pension made up?
You can get an AOW pension as from the date on which you reach your AOW pension age. AOW pension can consist of a number of components.
If you receive an AOW pension and you have a partner who has also reached the AOW pension age, your partner may receive an AOW pension of his or her own.
The supplementary allowance for partners who have not yet reached the AOW pension age has been discontinued as from 1 April 2015. What does this mean for you?
- If you currently receive a supplementary allowance, you will continue to receive it as long as the conditions are met.
- If you are currently not receiving a supplementary allowance, you will not be able to receive one in the future.
AOW top-up: an extra amount on top of your AOW pension
Every month, you will receive an AOW top-up of up to € 25.23. The AOW top-up is an extra amount on top of your AOW pension. The amount of the top-up depends on the number of years you have built up rights to an AOW pension. For each year of insurance under the AOW scheme, you build up rights to 2% of the full AOW pension. You can build up AOW pension rights for a maximum of 50 years (=100%).
Example: you have built up rights to 50% of the full AOW pension. This means that your AOW top-up is 50% x € 25.23 = € 12.62 gross per month.
NB: In the month in which you reach the AOW pension age, you will only get AOW top-up for the days for which you receive AOW pension.
Holiday allowance in May
Every month, you build up holiday allowance. The holiday allowance is paid out once a year, in May.
