If you and your partner separate or get divorced
If you separate or get divorced, the amount of your AIO supplement will change. You will get the amount for a single person.
If you also receive an AOW pension, the amount of your AOW pension will change as well. If you receive an AOW supplementary allowance for your partner, it will stop if you separate or get divorced.
If you stay married but start living separately
If you are married or in a registered partnership, you will normally receive an AIO supplement at the rate for a married person. There is one exception: you and you partner stay married but start living separately. In that case, you will be entitled to an AIO supplement for a single person, provided the following conditions are met:
- you or your partner is living apart by choice
- you and your partner live apart
- you or your partner does not intend to live together again in the future
If you are married or in a registered partnership but you each live at a different address for financial or practical reasons, you will receive an AIO supplement at the rate for a married person.
If you and your partner start living separately but stay married, you should contact us. We will then determine whether you are eligible for an AIO supplement at the rate for a single person.
