To download the app, you need: 

• our letter containing the QR code 
• an identity document with an NFC chip
• a mobile phone or tablet with an NFC reader
• an internet connection

Near-field communication, or ‘NFC’ , is used to share information in a secure manner. The NFC chip in an identity document stores information such as the holder’s name, date of birth and photograph.

Where to find the NFC chip varies per type of identity document.

If you are using a passport, you can find the NFC chip embedded in the cover. 

You will see the NFC symbol on the front cover. It consists of a rectangle with a circle and 2 horizontal lines in it. 

If you are using an ID card, the chip is embedded in the card. 

To find the chip, look for the NFC symbol, which is a rectangle with a circle and 2 horizontal lines in it.

If your Dutch driving licence was issued on or after 26 May 2018, it will have an NFC chip.

Dutch driving licences have a clear round window instead of a visible NFC symbol. 

If your driving licence was issued before 26 May 2018, it will not have an NFC chip. 

To be able to read the information on the NFC chip, you need a mobile phone or tablet with an NFC reader. 

The app does not store any information. This means that you can also use someone else’s mobile phone or tablet.

Your identity document does not have an NFC chip. This means that you cannot use the app to submit your life certificate.

If you have an  iPhone , the NFC reader is always turned on. 

If you have an Android   smartphone or tablet, you can turn the NFC reader on and off.

You have everything you need to download the app. Make sure you have our letter with the QR code ready.

You can find the NFC reader on your mobile telephone or tablet by going through the following steps:

• Settings 
• Connections 
• NFC and contactless payments

Check whether the NFC reader is switched on. If it is not, switch it on. Get the letter with the QR code.

• The code is intended for one-time use. You will get a new QR code next time
• The code is personal and you can only use it to submit your own life certificate 
• If you have a spouse or partner, they will get their own QR code

You do not need to download a separate app to scan the QR code. You can simply use your camera.

• Open the camera on your iPhone 
• Point the camera at the QR code in the letter 
• Tap on the link that will appear on your screen

If you have already installed the app on your device, it will open automatically when you scan the QR code.

And how to move your face to take a good photograph. 

If the notification ‘Document successfully uploaded’ appears, you will know the upload has worked.

We will check everything and contact you if we have any questions. You will continue to receive your payments as usual.

If you receive an error message, the upload has failed.

The 'Documents Submitted’ window will open, where you can download a submission receipt showing that you have submitted your life certificate successfully. You should do this straight away because you will not be able to do this once you have left the app. To leave the app, tap ‘Continue’ again.
