Verification and compliance

We make sure our pension and benefit schemes are carried out properly so that everyone gets exactly what they are entitled to. No more and no less. We also check whether people are complying with the rules. This is called ‘compliance’.

We may ask you for information

If we still have questions, we may visit you at home. We also visit companies and organisations to get more information. These visits can be announced or unannounced. You can also be asked to provide information over the telephone or by letter.

If you get a letter from the SVB, always check it:

  • our letters always have the SVB logo and the name and contact details of an SVB officer
  • the SVB logo will also be on the envelope

In the letter, we may ask you for extra information. We need this information to decide whether we are paying a pension or benefit correctly. We can ask you for this information under Dutch law, and you are obliged to cooperate.

If you are not sure, or you think something is wrong, call us on telephone number +31 (0)30 264 9880 so we can check whether your letter has really come from the SVB.

If you get a phone call from the SVB, please bear in mind that:

  • we may phone you on your mobile phone or your landline. It is also possible that you will not see the caller’s number
  • we always start by introducing ourselves
  • the SVB officer will ask you a few control questions to check whether he or she is talking to the right person
  • we always explain why we are phoning you
  • we never ask for your login details
During the telephone call, we may ask you for extra information. We need this information to decide whether we are paying your pension or benefit correctly. We can ask you for this information under Dutch law, and you are obliged to cooperate.

If you are not sure, or you think something is wrong, call us back on telephone number +31 (0)30 264 9880 so we can check whether the person who called you really does work for the SVB.

If we visit you at home, please bear in mind that:

  • there will always be 2 SVB officers for the visit
  • we will always ask for your permission to enter your house
  • we will never call at your door in the evening or at the weekend
  • our officers will always show you their SVB identity card immediately. Take your time to check the SVB identity card properly
  • always ask to see an identity card if it is not immediately shown. If our officers do not have their identity card with them, do not let them into your house.
  • we will ask for proof of your identity to make sure we are speaking to the right person
  • if you prefer, you can ask a family member, friend or acquaintance to be there when we talk to you

If you are not sure about the visitors or you think something is wrong, call us on telephone number +31 (0)264 9880 before you let them into your house.

We can also visit you at home if you live outside the Netherlands.

If you do not want us to visit you at home

You are not obliged to cooperate with a home visit. But we will still need information to decide whether we are paying your pension or benefit correctly. We usually ask you to give us a date and time when we can come back. If you refuse a home visit completely, it may affect your pension or benefit.

If we visit your business or organisation, please bear in mind that:

  • our officers will always show you their SVB identity card immediately. Take your time to check the SVB identity card properly
  • always ask to see an identity card if it is not immediately shown. If our officers do not have their identity card with them, do not let them into your house.

During the visit, our officers may ask you for extra information. We need this information to decide whether we are paying a pension or benefit correctly. Or to check whether an A1 certificate can be issued or has been issued correctly. We can ask you for this information under Dutch law, and you are obliged to cooperate.

If you are not sure about the visitors or you think something is wrong, call us on telephone number +31 (0)30 264 9880 so we can check whether they really do work for the SVB.
