AIO supplement
What is an AIO supplement?
A minimum income has been established so that everyone can have at least a minimum acceptable standard of living. If you are 65 or over and your income is less than the set minimum income, you can get an AIO supplement in addition to your AOW pension to bring your income up to the level of the minimum income.
If you are 65 or over
Around six months before your 65th birthday, the SVB will send you a claim form for an AOW pension. If you are not entitled to a full AOW pension, for instance, because you have lived outside the Netherlands, we will check whether you can get an AIO supplement.
If you already receive a (partial) AOW pension and have little or no other income, you can still apply to us for an AIO supplement.
If you are under 65
If you are under 65, you have to claim income support (national assistance) from your municipal authorities. You will need to go to the Social Services department (Gemeentelijke Sociale Dienst) or the Work and Income department (Dienst Werk en Inkomen).
