If you go abroad for longer than a certain period, your AIO supplement may be affected.
Let the SVB know if you are going abroad
Let us know in advance if you plan to go abroad. Tell us the departure and return dates of your trip.
- Report a stay outside the Netherlands
If your partner goes abroad alone and you stay in the Netherlands, let us know that only your partner will be outside the Netherlands.

How long can you be outside the Netherlands each year without this affecting your AIO supplement?
To keep your AIO supplement, you cannot stay outside the Netherlands for more than 13 weeks a year. If your partner is under the AOW pension age, he or she may not stay abroad for more than 4 weeks.
The day of departure does not count towards the length of your stay outside the Netherlands, but we do take account of the day on which you return.
You can go abroad several times a year, as long as you stay within the maximum allowed number of weeks per year. Your periods abroad will be added together. If you exceed the maximum allowed number of weeks per year, your AIO supplement will stop.
If you are outside the Netherlands for more than 13 consecutive weeks, your AIO supplement will stop, even if the stay starts in one year and ends in the next year.
If you wish to stay outside the Netherlands longer
If you wish to stay outside the Netherland longer than the maximum allowed number of weeks, you should bear in mind that your AIO supplement will stop as soon as you reach the maximum number of weeks.
If you return to the Netherlands after your AIO supplement has been stopped, you must submit a new claim for an AIO supplement to the SVB.
Your AOW pension may also change if you stay outside the Netherlands for more than 3 months
If you stay outside the Netherlands for more than 3 months per year, the amount of your AOW pension may change. During those three months, the same rules apply to your AOW pension that apply when you live outside the Netherlands permanently.
