Wbpzo - What kinds of financial support are available?

An extraordinary pension guarantees you a certain level of income, which is calculated on the basis of your personal circumstances, such as your degree of disability. If your other income (e.g. AOW pension and/or a private pension) is lower than the guaranteed income level, the pension will supplement your income up to that level.

In determining the amount of the guaranteed income, we do not consider factors such as opportunities for promotion, advancement of professional skills, expansion of a business, etc.

Pensions for people who were sailors during the war

As a sailor, you will be eligible for a pension if you have a degree of disability of at least 10% due to health damage attributable to the war or an injunction to continue sailing. If you have a disability level of 80% or more, you will receive a "compassionate allowance" as well as the fixed reimbursement.

Payments for surviving spouses / registered partners

If you are the surviving partner of a sailor, and your partner received a pension from us, you may also receive a pension. As a surviving partner, you have to meet the condition of loyalty to the Netherlands.

The amount of the extraordinary pension

The amount of the extraordinary pension will depend on your disability percentage and other income you receive. For instance, other pensions and benefits, such as AOW pension received by you or your partner, and income from capital. The pension will be increased every year in January and July by the same percentage as the Dutch minimum wage.

If you have expenses for health damage caused by the war or an injunction to continue sailing, you can apply for reimbursement or an allowance to help cover the costs of e.g. medical treatment, household assistance or transport.

We will only contribute towards expenses not covered by your insurance or another organization. Expenses already incurred can be declared for up to 12 months after they were incurred. The amount payable will depend on your individual circumstances.

Surviving partners are not entitled to reimbursements or allowances for costs.
