Voluntary insurance - When can you take out voluntary insurance?

You can take out voluntary AOW and Anw insurance if:

• you are going to live or work outside the Netherlands
• you apply for voluntary insurance in writing within one year of the date on which you start living or working outside the Netherlands
• you were insured under the AOW and Anw schemes for at least one year immediately prior to the start of the voluntary insurance
• you are between 15 and 65 (only for AOW insurance)
  

We advise you to apply for voluntary Anw insurance as soon as you start living or working outside the Netherlands.
