As a rule, if you live or work outside the Netherlands, you will not be covered under the AOW old age pension scheme and the Anw survivor benefit scheme. As a consequence, you will get a reduced AOW pension, and your partner will not get an Anw survivor benefit if you pass away. You can, however, stay insured under the AOW and Anw schemes by taking out voluntary insurance.
