Child benefit - The child budget: usually paid by the Tax Administration (Belastingdienst), sometimes by the SVB

Child benefit

In some cases, the SVB will pay child budget and/or childcare benefit.

In two cases, the SVB will pay the child budget instead of the Tax Administration:

1. If you get a Dutch supplement on top of non-Dutch family benefits

Many countries pay family benefits to families with children. In the Netherlands, family benefits consist of child benefit, TOG care allowance, child budget and childcare benefit. In some cases, people can get family benefits from the Netherlands and from another country as well. There are agreements in place between countries that determine which country's child benefit has priority. If you get the full amount of family benefits from another country, and the amount of Dutch family benefits is higher, you will receive a supplement from the Netherlands to bring the amount you receive up to the Dutch level.

If you get a child budget and/or childcare benefit, we will check whether your non-Dutch family benefits are lower than the total amount of Dutch child benefit, child budget and/or childcare benefit. If so, we will supplement the amount of your non-Dutch family benefits up to the amount of Dutch child benefit + child budget. You will receive the Dutch supplement on a quarterly basis, after the end of the quarter concerned.

2. If your child lives in Morocco

If you get Dutch child benefit for a child who lives in Morocco, and you also get a child budget, we will pay the child benefit and the child budget every quarter to the parent or carer in Morocco. Payment is made after the end of the quarter.
