Child benefit
Different start and end dates for child benefit and child budget
Child budget starts in the month after the child's month of birth
Child budget starts in the month following the month in which your child was born. If your child was born in April, you will start receiving child budget in May.
You may have to wait a while for the first payment, but after that, the Tax Administration will pay your child budget in advance. Example: your child budget for September will be paid at the end of August.
Child benefit payments start in the quarter following the quarter in which the child was born
Child benefit is paid on a quarterly basis, and starts in the quarter after the quarter in which your child was born. If your child was born on 12 April, this means that he or she was born in the second quarter. The child benefit will then start in the 3rd quarter. The SVB pays child benefit after the end of the quarter concerned, in this case, at the beginning of October.
You will only get child benefit for the quarter in which your child was born if he or she was born on the first day of the quarter. If your child was born on 1 April, the child benefit will start in the second quarter. If your child is born on 2 April, the child benefit will not start until the third quarter.
Child budget ends in the month of the child's 18th birthday.
Child budget always ends in the month of the child's 18th birthday. If your child turns 18 in April, your last child budget payment will be for April. You will receive this payment from the Tax Administration at the end of March.
Child benefit ends as from the quarter after the quarter in which your child turns 18.
Child benefit ends in the quarter after the quarter in which your child turned 18. If your child turns 18 on 12 April, you will get child benefit for the whole of the second quarter. This will be paid to you after the end of the quarter, i.e. in July.
If your child turns 18 on the first day of a quarter, you will not receive child benefit for that quarter. In other words, if your child's birthday is on 1 April, the child benefit will end after the 1st quarter.
