Child benefit - When does the SVB pay child benefit?

Child benefit

When does the SVB pay child benefit?

Dutch child benefit is paid per quarter. Payment is made after the end of the quarter. It may take a few days before the amount is credited to your account, depending on your bank.

Payment dates

  • first quarter: around 5 April.
  • second quarter: around 5 July.
  • third quarter: around 5 October.
  • fourth quarter: around 5 January.

Whether you get child benefit for a certain quarter, and if so how much you get, depends on the situation on the first day of the quarter.

Examples:

  • Your child was born on 12 April (in the second quarter). On the first day of the quarter, your child had not yet been born. You are therefore not entitled to child benefit until the third quarter. You will receive our first payment after the end of the third quarter, around 5 October.
  • Your child was born on 1 April (the first day of the second quarter). You are therefore entitled to child benefit for the second quarter. You will receive our payment around 5 July.
  • The child benefit will increase when your child turns 6. If your child was born on 1 April, you will get the higher amount as from the second quarter. If your child was born on 12 April, you will get the higher amount as from the third quarter.
