Child benefit

Child benefit for children born before 1995

The amount of child benefit paid for children born before 1 January 1995 depends on the number of children you get child benefit for. The more children for whom you get child benefit, the higher the amount will be for your children born before 1995.

All children are taken into account

All children for whom you receive child benefit are taken into account for the calculation of the child benefit for a child born before 1995. This therefore includes children born on or after 1 January 1995. A child for whom you receive child benefit at twice the basic rate counts as two children. A child living with your ex-partner is also taken into account if:

  • your ex-partner receives child benefit for this child, and
  • you pay child support.

Examples:

  • You have a child who was born in 2001 and twins who were born in 1994. You get € 228.98 for your child born in 2001. For your twins, you get the amount corresponding to three children, which is € 322.73 per child.
  • If your child born in 2001 lives away from home and you receive child benefit for him or her at twice the basic rate, this child will count as two children. In that case, for your twins, you will get the amount corresponding to 4 children, which is € 349.11 per child.
