International secondment
Working in more than one EU country
If you start working in more than one country of the European Union (EU), you will be covered under the social insurance system of the country where you live, provided you work in that country for at least one day a month. If you do not work in the country where you live, you will be covered under social insurance in the country where your employer is based.
Working outside the Netherlands permanently
If you start working outside the Netherlands permanently, you will cease to be insured in the Netherlands for e.g. AOW old age pension, child benefit, unemployment and incapacity for work. Instead, you will be insured in the country where you work.
Proof of secondment: the E101 certificate
In many countries, a labour inspectorate will check whether you are covered under social insurance legislation. You can prove that you are covered by showing an E101 certificate. Some countries will not allow you to work without this certificate.
