You are going to study outside the Netherlands
When will you remain insured?
If you are going to receive professional or practical training outside the Netherlands, you will continue to be covered under the Dutch social insurance system if:
- your employer continues to pay your wages;
- your employer pays social insurance contributions for you to the Dutch Tax Administrationv (Belastingdienst);
- your training takes place in another EU country or a country with which the Netherlands has a social security agreement;
- you are a national of a country of the European Union (EU) or a country with which the Netherlands has a social security agreement, or you have a residence permit which allows you to work in the Netherlands.
Practical training outside the Netherlands for a Dutch educational institution
If you are going to receive practical training outside the Netherlands as part of your course of study at a Dutch educational institution, and you do not have an employment contract with an employer, you will usually stay insured under the Dutch social insurance system. In that case, the educational institution will not need to apply for an E101 certificate. You can obtain more information from your educational institution.
Working outside the Netherlands
If you receive practical training on the basis of an employment contract with an employer based outside the Netherlands, and you receive wages, you will no longer be covered under social insurance in the Netherlands. Instead, you will be covered for e.g. old age pension and unemployment benefit in the other country.
