You work in Belgium
If you live in the Netherlands and start working in Belgium, you will be covered under Belgian health insurance. You can register with a Belgian health insurance fund of your choice. You will have to pay a contribution of about € 50 a year to the Belgian health insurance fund. This contribution is known as 'lidgeld'. In addition, you have to pay an income-related health insurance contribution of 3.55% on your wages.
Medical care in the Netherlands
You can choose to receive medical care in the Netherlands, the costs of which will be reimbursed by CZ Zorgverzekeringen in Sittard (046 459 5812). In that case, you must register with CZ using form S1, which you can obtain from your health insurance fund.
Medical care in Belgium
You can also choose to receive medical care in Belgium. In that case, you have to claim your expenses from your Belgian health insurance fund. Your health insurance fund will normally reimburse you for 75% of your expenses, which means that you have to pay a personal contribution of 25%. You can take out supplementary hospitalization insurance to reduce the costs in the event of admission to hospital.
