Flemish Care Insurance

If you live or work in Belgium, you will normally need to join the Flemish Care Insurance scheme (Vlaamse Zorgverzekering). To do this, you must register with a health insurance fund (zorgkas). This costs € 25 a year. If you live in Belgium while working in the Netherlands, you will not need to be covered under the Flemish Care Insurance scheme because you will already be covered under Dutch health insurance. If you live in Brussels, you can take out voluntary insurance.

Reimbursement

Flemish Care Insurance provides for partial reimbursement for the costs of:
  • informal care
  • professional home care, and
  • professional residential care

When do you get reimbursement?

You will get reimbursement for the above types of care if you:

  • are registered with a Belgian health insurance fund and you pay the annual contribution
  • need home care because you are heavily dependent on care
  • have been admitted to a rest home, nursing home or psychiatric home
