You work in Belgium and the Netherlands

If you work both in Belgium and the Netherlands, where you are covered under social insurance depends on whether you:
  • live in Belgium or the Netherlands;
  • are in paid employment in both countries. It makes no difference whether you work for the same employer in both countries or a different employer in each country;
  • are self-employed in both countries;
  • work in paid employment in one country and are self-employed in the other country.
The tables below show where you will be insured in each case. You and your employer will have to pay social insurance contributions in that country. You will also receive any benefits, pensions and reimbursements from that country, except for unemployment benefit. Unemployment benefit is paid in the country where you live.
