You work in the Netherlands temporarily
If you will be working in the Netherlands temporarily for your Belgian employer, you can easily arrange to stay covered under the Belgian social insurance system. However, medical expenses will be reimbursed by the Netherlands.
Arranging your social insurance
If you will be working in the Netherlands temporarily, you should arrange your social insurance as follows:
- Ask your employer for a secondment certificate (A1 certificate). This certificate proves that you are covered by social insurance in Belgium and do not have to pay contributions in the Netherlands. Your employer can apply for the certificate via the Internet.
- You should then request a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) from your health insurance fund. With this card, you can get reimbursement for medical care in the Netherlands. Your Belgian health insurance fund will provide the EHIC free of charge.
