BBZ - You work in Belgium

BBZ

You are going to start working in Belgium

If you work in Belgium, you will pay tax and social insurance contributions in Belgium. You will be insured in Belgium for:
  • medical expenses
  • child benefit
  • unemployment
  • incapacity for work
  • old age pension and survivor benefit
This means that pensions, benefits and reimbursements you get under these insurance schemes are from Belgium. The only exception is that you would get an unemployment benefit from the country where you live.

Belgian or Dutch child benefit?

You will get Belgian child benefit if:

  • your partner also works in Belgium, or
  • your partner is not employed

You can claim child benefit from your Belgian employer's child benefit fund.

If your partner works in the Netherlands, you will get Dutch child benefit. The Belgian child benefit rate is usually higher than the Dutch. As you are also entitled to Belgian child benefit, you will get supplementary Belgian child benefit in addition to the Dutch child benefit so that you receive the child benefit rate that is applicable in Belgium.

Health insurance

To be covered under Belgian health insurance, register with a Belgian health insurance fund of your choice. Ask them for an E106 form.

To claim reirmbursement for medical expenses in the Netherlands and Belgium, send form E106 to:
