Child benefit from the country where you work

You will normally get child benefit from the country where you work because that is where you pay tax and national insurance contributions and where you are covered under social insurance. You can claim child benefit in that country.

If your partner does not work, or if he or she works in the same country as you, you can only get child benefit from the country where you work.

In some cases, child benefit will be paid by the country where you live

If you and your partner work in different countries, you will get child benefit from the country where you and your partner live. If the country where you work pays a higher rate of child benefit, that country will pay supplementary child benefit up to amount applicable there so that you get the maximum amount.
