Dutch child benefit
You live in Belgium and work in the Netherlands. Will you get Dutch or Belgian child benefit?
If you live in Belgium, you can get Dutch family allowances. Family allowances may include child benefit, child budget and childcare allowance.
You can get Dutch child beneft for children up to the age of 16. You can get child benefit for children aged 16 and 17 if they are in education, or are unemployed or incapacitated for work. You can claim Dutch child benefit from the SVB. Contact the SVB office serving the area in which your Dutch employer is based.
Child budget is paid by the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst). Whether you can get a child budget depends on your income. You will find more information (in Dutch) at www.toeslagen.nl.
Payment of child benefit
If your partner works in Belgium (or receives a Belgian unemployment benefit, sickness benefit or equivalent benefit) you will get Belgian child benefit. If the Dutch child benefit rate is higher, you will receive supplementary Dutch child benefit up to the level payable in the Netherlands.
If your partner is not employed, and he or she does not receive a wage replacement benefit either, you will receive Dutch family allowances.
