Child benefit from Belgium

If you live in the Netherlands and work in Belgium, you will be entitled to Belgian child benefit. Belgian child benefit is paid each month. You can get Belgian child benefit until 31 August of the year in which your child turns 18. You can also get child benefit for a child aged 18 tot 25 if he or she:

  • is in education or studying, and
  • only has a small income from work or receives a social security benefit.

You can also claim child benefit for adopted children or foster children.

If your child is handicapped, you can get child benefit until he or she is 21. Your child may also be able to get an allowance.

How much child benefit can you get?

In addition to the basic child benefit, you will get an age-related allowance for a child from age 6.

Claim child benefit

If you are in paid employment, you can claim child benefit from your Belgian employer's child benefit fund or from the National Office for Child Benefit for Employees (RKW ).

If you are self-employed in Belgium, you can claim child benefit from the National Institute for the Social Security of the Self-employed (RSVZ). You will find more information on their websites.
