Payment if you live outside the NetherlandsWe will make sure that you get your AOW pension wherever you live. If you have a bank account, you can receive your AOW pension in almost any country in the world. Payments may take a few days to arrive in your account, depending on your country and bank.
AOW pension payments in other currencies
In some countries, your AOW pension will not be paid in euros but a different currency. The net amount you receive may vary for each payment due to fluctuations in exchange rates. The exchange rates used for each month are shown on the 'Exchange rates' page.
Charges for payments outside the Netherlands
It costs money to pay your pension outside the Netherlands:
- The SVB will pay these costs for pension payments made to EU and EEA countries, and to Australia, Israël, Cape Verde, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
- In the case of pensions paid to Canada, New Zealand, the United States and South Africa, the SVB will deduct € 0.02 from your pension.
For all other countries, and for cheque payments, the SVB will deduct € 0.48 from your pension.
Your own bank may also charge administration fees. The amount charged will differ between banks. The SVB has no influence on these charges. If you only receive a small amount from the SVB, we advise you to have your payments made per quarter or per year, to save on costs.
Quarterly or annual pension payments may be more advantageous for you
If your monthly pension amount is small, the extra fees may be disproportionately high. If you live outside the Netherlands, you can therefore opt to have your pension paid quarterly or annually. Contact your SVB office for more information about this. NB: it is not possible to receive your AOW pension as a lump sum.
You can check when your AOW pension will be paid
If you have a DigiD login code for the SVB, you can consult your details from outside the Netherlands 24 hours of the day. You can see when your AOW pension will be paid and what the amount is. You can also read and print out your monthly AOW pension statements or your annual pension statements, or inform us of a change in your account number, for example.
WIth a DigiD code, you can arrange your AOW pension affairs via My SVB on our website, thus avoiding high telephone costs when contacting us.
