AOW pension - How is the pension made up?

As from your 65th birthday, your pension will be paid into your account every month. The amount you receive may be made up of different components.

• If you are currently receiving an AOW pension and you have a partner who is 65 or over, he or she may receive an AOW pension of his or her own.
• If your partner is still under 65, you may be entitled to a supplementary allowance on top of your AOW pension. The amount of the supplementary allowance depends on the number of years your partner was insured under the AOW scheme, your partner's income, and your and your partner's joint income.
• Every month, if you live in the Netherlands, you will receive a top-up of € 33.65. The top-up was introduced by the Dutch government as a measure to improve purchasing power. If you live outside the Netherlands, you will only receive a top-up if 90% or more of your worldwide income is subject to taxation in the Netherlands. 

Every month, you build up holiday allowance. The holiday allowance is paid out once a year, in May.
