AOW pension
Submitting a claim
How to claim an AOW pension depends on your situation.
You live in the Netherlands, and you have been sent a claim form.
You can complete the form and send it in by post. If you have a DigiD code, you can also complete and send the form online. (You will hear from us sooner if you complete and send the form online.)
You live in the Netherlands and have not yet received a claim form.
You will be sent an AOW pension claim form around 6 months before your 65th birthday. You cannot submit a claim before that time. If you have still not received a claim form 3 months before your 65th birthday, please contact us, or claim your AOW pension via My SVB (DigiD).
If you live outside the Netherlands
how to claim an AOW pension depends on where you live.
There are three possibilities.
You live in a country of the EU (European Union) or the EEA (European Economic Area), or in another country with which the Netherlands has an agreement on social security.
If you are insured under that country's state pension scheme, you should contact your local state pension agency about your AOW pension claim.
If you are not insured for a basic state pension in that country, contact us and we will send you a claim form.If you live in a country other than the ones referred to above,
you should contact us, and we will send you a claim form.If you are already a client of the SVB, you do not have to do anything.
For example, if you get an Anw survivor benefit from us, or a remigration benefit, we will contact you a few months before your 65th birthday.
