Anw survivor benefit
If an Anw benefit recipient dies
If the person who died lived in the Netherlands
If the recipient of an Anw benefit dies, we make sure that the benefit stops. After the death has been reported to the municipal authorities (gemeente), they inform us.
If the person who died lived outside the Netherlands
If the person who died lived outside the Netherlands, his or her survivors must report the death to us so that we can stop the benefit payments.
What happens to the Anw benefit when a beneficiary dies
Anw survivor benefit, dependent child allowance and holiday allowance all stop the day after the beneficiary dies.If a beneficiary dies before the end of the month, and we have paid Anw benefit for the whole month, a certain amount will have been overpaid. Insofar as possible, we will offset the amount that was overpaid against any amounts still payable.
Holiday allowance
Holiday allowance is paid from May until the date of death.
Death grant for children under 18
If a person dies and leaves behind a child under 18, we will also pay a 'death grant'. This consists of one month's gross Anw survivor benefit and/or dependent child allowance. If there is more than one surviving child under 18, each child will be entitled to an equal part of the death grant.
To check whether children are entitled to an orphan's benefit, you can visit the page on orphan's benefit.
