Anw survivor benefit
When does the orphan's benefit stop?
The orphan's benefit usually stops when the child turns 16, but may, in some cases, continue until he or she turns 18 or 21.
- If the child is at least 45% disabled for work, the orphan’s benefit will continue until his or her 18th birthday.
- If the child is still receiving education, (at least 213 hours per quarter), the orphan’s benefit will continue until his or her 21st birthday.
- If the child runs a household containing at least one other child who is entitled to an orphan's benefit, the orphan's benefit will continue until his or her 21st birthday. The orphan's benefit will stop if the child who runs the household gets married or starts living with a partner.
An orphan's benefit will also stop if the child is held in a prison or remand centre for more than a month
